Speakers from all over the world will be sharing their knowledge and experiences to enrich Asian Psychiatry under the theme “New horizons in Asian psychiatry: choosing wisely”.

I am delighted to welcome you to the beautiful city of Colombo where the International Congress of Asian Federation of Psychiatric Associations will be held in May 2016.

The theme for our meeting – ‘New Horizons in Asian Psychiatry: Choosing Wisely’ emphasizes the compelling need to work together in spite of diversity in the field of mental health in Asia.

About the Sri Lanka College of Psychiatrists

Sri Lanka College of Psychiatrists had been active in supporting developing mental health services throughout the country and achieved coverage of all districts in providing a reasonable mental health care. Except for two districts all districts are served by consultant psychiatrists. Diploma holders and medical officers of mental health assist psychiatrists in delivering care to masses. Graduates from medical schools of the country are equipped with knowledge and skills to cater to growing mental and social health needs of the country.  The doctors and their teams work under dire circumstances and College support their quest.

The more recent developments of the College are aimed at improving quality of care delivered. In this quest the College has focused on rewarding outstanding regional psychiatrists, capacity building programmes and  continuous professional development programmes.

The more recent College activities resulted in cordial relationship with other stakeholders contributing to improved profile of the discipline. It also strengthened links with Colleges and Associations of Psychiatry all over the world.

The pinnacle of the College, Annual Academic Sessions will be held from 27th to 30th May 2016, in association with the International Conference of Asian Federation of Psychiatrists and World Psychiatric Association. Eminent world psychiatrists will be joining hands with young psychiatrists in Asia and this will be an unique experience where culture, natural beauty and serenity meet in academic arena.
